Award Winning Presenter & Campaigner
I worked for fifteen years for Greater Manchester Probation and act as an advisor on Trans issues. I am also a counsellor specialising in clients with gender identity issues and a counselling/casework supervisor.
I was Chair of Inner Enigma, the Manchester based Transsexual/ Intersex support charity, and of LAGIP, the LGB&T staff support group for the Probation Service and on the working group for a:gender, a pan civil service trans support network. I served on the NOMS Equality and Diversity Taskforce.
I won the 2005 National Probation Service (NPS) Diversity Award in the Individual "Communication" category for my work promoting Trans issues, was nominated for a Greater Manchester Probation Staff Award in 2007 and won a national Butler Trust award for work in 2008 in this area - presented by Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace. I was a guest on BBC Radio Manchester to talk about this work. I was awarded the a:gender "Meerkat Award" and made a "Life Member" of the organisation (only the third person to receive this award) for my work with the network.
I have advised other probation areas on dealing with the transition in post of probation officers - including briefing senior management teams and colleagues. I presented a workshop on Trans Issues in the Criminal Justice System at the first NPS National Diversity Conference.
I am now proud to be a Role Model with Diversity Role Models – telling a bit of my story as part of sessions to reduce homophobic, transphobic and biphobic bullying
