Award Winning Presenter & Campaigner
I worked for fifteen years for Greater Manchester Probation and acted as an advisor on trans issues nationally. I am also a counsellor specialising in clients with gender identity issues and a counselling/casework supervisor.
I was Chair of Inner Enigma, the Manchester based Transsexual/ Intersex support charity, and of LAGIP, the LGBT staff support group for the probation service. I was on the working group for a:gender, a pan civil service Trans support network and served on the NOMS Equality and Diversity Taskforce.
I won the 2005 National Probation Service (NPS) Diversity Award in the Individual "Communication" category for my work promoting trans issues, was nominated for a Greater Manchester Probation Staff Award in 2007 and won a national Butler Trust award for work in 2008 in this area - presented by Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace and was a guest on BBC Radio Manchester to talk about this work. I was awarded the a:gender "Meerkat Award" and made a "Life Member" of the organisation (only the third person to receive this award) for my work with the network.
I have advised other probation areas on dealing with the transition in post of probation officers - including briefing senior management teams and colleagues. I presented a workshop on Trans Issues in the Criminal Justice System at the very first National Probation Service Diversity Conference.
very good presentation. Fully made me aware of how little knowledge I had of the issues; thanks
comprehensive information well presented; I'd like more training
whole input was informative and empowering; very useful information delivered in an accessible manner
facilitator/ trainer very informed/ knowledgeable on subject
loads of useful information; needed to be longer
enjoyed the briefing, Helen made the event fun but filled us all in on all the facts and provided lots of insight and knowledge
the event should be mandatory for all staff to attend
Quite seriously it was the most fact filled, fascinating talk that I have ever had the pleasure of listening to.
I really enjoyed your talk. I usually get bored after 30 mins on zoom but you held my attention.
